The Poggio Civitate Archaeological Database is a publicly available digital archive and research tool. As the excavators of Poggio Civitate have long believed, it is our responsibility not only to present our findings to a public audience, but also to be as transparent in that presentation as possible. Unlike nearly any other excavation of similar scale and duration, all archival documentation, from the first days of excavation at the site to the most recent additions to our understanding of it are available and accessible through this system.
Work on the digital archive continues to evolve. Through a partnership with Open Context (http://opencontext.org/),
we expect that scholars will not only be able to query and investigate
generations of work at Poggio Civitate, but also compare materials to a
number of similar sites throughout the Mediterranean.
